While there, the Hackney Library at Barton won the John Cotton Dana Award for the innovative open house program, The Band Book Tour. Lippard has worked in libraries since 1991 when he began at UNC Charlotte as the Approval Plan Coordinator in the Acquisitions Unit. Since earning his MLIS from UNC Greensboro in 1995, Lippard has held librarian positions at Johnson C. Smith University, Catawba College and UNC Chapel Hill.
Lippard completed his undergraduate degree in Radio, Television, and Motion Pictures at UNC Chapel Hill and began work on a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Cultural Foundations. This work has led to an interest in popular culture and its influence on identity, especially through television. He has brought this interest into his library work with particular focus on marketing the library and has led to production of videos based on The Brady Bunch and The Office to introduce the library staff to patrons.
